The Best AR Options for a Home Decor Store in 2026

Picture a decor store owner in Sydney. She sells framed prints, mirrors, and table lamps. Her site looks good. Her photos are sharp. Yet her inbox is full of the same questions. "How big is the frame, really?" "Will this mirror fit over my mantel?" "Is the lamp too tall for a bedside table?"

Decor is hard to buy online. A chair is at least a known shape. A vase or a mirror lives or dies on how it sits in one specific corner of one specific room. Photos cannot carry that. AR can. The customer points their phone at the wall, and the piece appears at true size, right where it would hang.

So what are your actual options for adding AR to a decor store? Here is the honest list, written for a store owner, not a developer.

Option 1: self-serve AR platforms

These are tools you run yourself. You upload product images and dimensions, someone makes the 3D models (a designer network, or an in-house artist), and you place the AR (Augmented Reality) viewer on your product pages. Augment is the long-standing example: founded in 2011, it has you work with its designer community, and its retail AR runs through mobile apps, including the retailer's own app.

Good when: you already have a mobile app and a team to run a platform. You get control. Bad when: you have neither. You are managing a project, not buying a result.

Option 2: Shopify AR (Augmented Reality) viewer apps

If you sell on Shopify, there are AR (Augmented Reality) viewer apps on the app store that drop a 3D viewer into your theme. Subscriptions are small. The catch is the models. The apps are viewers only. You supply every 3D model yourself, usually commissioned from 3D artists at roughly $100 to $500 per product. A decor catalogue of two hundred pieces turns a small monthly fee into a large modelling bill. We did the same maths on furniture in our cost breakdown for small furniture stores. It works the same way for decor.

Good when: you already have 3D models of everything. Bad when: you do not, which is almost every small decor store.

Option 3: done-for-you AR services

You send photos and real dimensions of your products. Someone else builds the true-to-size AR (Augmented Reality) views and hands you links and QR codes that open AR in the phone browser. ARQR360 works this way. No app for your customers. No modelling work on your side. About seven days from photos to a live catalogue.

Good when: you want AR live this month with no new hires. Bad when: you need deep custom work like product configurators. That is a platform job, not a service job.

What to check before you choose

Where each option lands

If you have a mobile app and a team, a self-serve platform gives you control. If you already have 3D models and a Shopify store, a viewer app is a cheap add. If you have neither, the done-for-you route is the one that ends with AR actually live on your site.

We ran the full comparison on one popular platform in ARQR360 vs Augment for decor stores. It shows the real difference between a platform you run and a service that runs for you.

The cheapest way to start

You do not have to believe any article. Send a photo of your bestselling piece and we will build you one true-to-size AR model free. Place it on your own wall next to the real thing, check the size with your own eyes, and decide with the thing in front of you. If it does not convince you, you have spent nothing.

Options are only half of it. The other half is pointing the views at the pieces that actually come back, which is the side covered in AR for decor stores and the returns it prevents. The finished views look like the ones in our decor AR catalogue.

FAQ

Do my customers need an app to see AR?

With ARQR360, no. Each piece gets a link and a QR code that opens the true-to-size view in the phone browser. Try the live decor demo yourself. On some platforms the AR (Augmented Reality) view runs inside mobile apps, so ask before you sign.

What does AR cost a small decor store?

It depends on who builds the models, which is the biggest cost on most routes. ARQR360 is flat and public: $249 one-time setup and $29 a month, with all model building included. The first test model is free.

How long before my decor is live?

With ARQR360, about seven days from your photos arriving. On self-serve platforms it depends on model turnaround plus your own integration work. Ask for a written timeline for your catalogue size before you commit.
